what all those acronyms and terms mean?
Well, here is a cheat sheet:
- CAEYC – California Association for
the Education of Young Children
- Cal Labor Fed – California Labor Federation,
AFL-CIO: The umbrella organization for all the AFL-CIO labor
unions in California
- CARES – Compensation and Retention Encourage
Stability: A stipend-based compensation initiative for child
care teachers and providers in California
- CCDBG – Child Care Development Block
Grant: Federal funds for child care
- CCTC – California Commission on Teacher
Credentialing
- CCW – Center for the Child Care Workforce
- CCW/AFTEF – Center for the Child Care
Workforce, American Federation of Teachers Educational Foundation
- CDD – Child Development Division: A
division of the California State Department of Education
- CDPAC – Child Development Policy Advisory
Committee: Provides recommendations to the governor and
legislature concerning child care and development
- CD Permit – Child Development Permit:
California's credential for early childhood educators
- CD Permit Matrix – Child Development
Permit Matrix: California's child care career ladder, which
defines educational qualifications for center-based staff
- CDTC – Child Development Training Consortium:
The organization that processes and grants the Child Development
Permits in California
- CFC – Children and Families Commission:
The state and county groups charged with making decisions
on how to spend the Prop 10 funds for programs for children
0-5 years old. (At the state level, this is also known as
the First 5 California Commission, or the State Prop 10
Commission. Many county commissions are adopting "First
5" as part of their title as well.)
- Family Child Care Provider – A person
who owns and operates a family child care home
- Child Care Teacher – A person who works
directly with children in a child care center
- Child Care Worker – A more general term
that includes teachers and providers
- ECE – Early Childhood Education
- FCD – Foundation for Child Development:
A national private philanthropy
- LEAP – Leadership Empowerment Action
Project: A CCW training for helping teachers and providers
find their voices and exercise their power to improve the
quality of child care and child care jobs
- LPC – Local Child Care Planning Council:
A county-based democratic body charged with planning child
care services
- NAEYC – National Association for the
Education of Young Children
- The Network – The California Resource
and Referral Network: An umbrella organization for all the
R&Rs in California
- PACE – Policy Analysis for California
Education: An independent policy research center that is
conducting the statewide evaluation of CARES for the State
Children and Families Commission
- Prop 10 – Proposition 10: A voter initiative
passed in California that levies a $.50/pack tax on cigarettes.
The funds go to the county Children and Families Commissions,
which decide how to spend the money on children 0-5 years
old in their counties . The state Children and Families
Commission also receives funds, which it expends on statewide
research and other initiatives.
- QCA – Quality, Compensation & Affordability:
A subgroup of California Association for the Education of
Young Children that deals specifically with workforce issues
- R&R – Child Care Resource and Referral
Agency: A county-based resource for parents and child care
providers
- UWBA – United Way of the Bay Area
- W4QCC – Working for Quality Child Care
- Wages Plus Quality – A compensation
initiative in San Francisco to raise wages for child care
teachers and family child care providers
- Worthy Wage Coalition – A local grassroots
organization of teachers and providers working to improve
child care worker compensation
